On September 26, 2026, the Vietnamese Association in Okinawa (AVO) organized a Mid-Autumn Festival event for Vietnamese children in Okinawa, Japan. The event took place with the participation of hundreds of children, parents, and young men and women. Hundreds of teenagers and children gathered with Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Japanese families to join in the fun and directly participate in traditional Vietnamese games such as puzzles, storytelling, lion dancing, and lantern parades.
Notably, the event featured a mooncake-eating ceremony. This healthy and beneficial playground not only helped Vietnamese and Vietnamese-descended children understand more about their national cultural traditions but also contributed to fostering a sense of connection within the community. At the same time, the event helped local people better understand the unique cultural characteristics of the Vietnamese nation, thereby enhancing cultural exchange between the people of the two countries in general and international friends in particular.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the Vietnamese Association in Okinawa, affirmed that the association's officials and executive board members will always accompany and be ready to organize more meaningful activities, creating an environment for exchange and connection between generations and families living, working, and studying in Okinawa, Japan. This will help preserve the Vietnamese language for children and promote Vietnamese cultural identity. In conclusion, the Mid-Autumn Festival event organized by the Vietnamese Association in Okinawa was a great success, not only creating a healthy playground for children but also contributing to preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural identity within the Vietnamese community in Okinawa, Japan.
